10 Laundry Room Organizers • Kath Eats

I’m sharing 10 essential laundry room organizers to maximize space and keep your laundry area neat, functional, and clutter-free.

Our laundry room is not a Pinterest-worthy laundry room by any means. It didn’t make it into our home renovation plans, so it’s nothing worth oogling over. (I do wish it looked as good as my closet!) I also know I could probably add wallpaper or some super nice floating shelves and make it look better, but it’s in the corner of our basement, so I’m not feeling the need. I’ve added some of my grandmother’s paintings for a bit of easy color and personality!

But pretty colors aside, I am very efficient with laundry and don’t do much in there other than move clothes in and out, so it’s functional for our family of four (I keep extras like our ironing board in a nearby closet).

But whether your laundry room is a tiny closet or a gorgeous multi-purpose room, it is pivotal to keep it tidy and organized. Especially since mine has an influx of laundry from three dirty boys!

A well-organized laundry room can make life easier when it’s turned into a more efficient and even pleasant space to work in. By incorporating the right organizers, you can make your laundry room both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I’m sharing a round-up of organizers that work wonders in laundry rooms, helping you create a laundry space that’s not only practical but also visually appealing.

10 Laundry Room Organizers

1. Canvas Laundry Totes

I love these huge canvas laundry totes – they hold a lot! We find it easier to use canvas totes as hampers because we’re carrying laundry to a different level. I don’t have the energy to move laundry from a hamper to a basket, so we just “tote” the whole thing down!

2. Expandable Drying Rack

I don’t buy clothes that you can’t dry (haha) with the exception of bathing suits that I just lay on top of the warm dryer. But if you’re someone who air dries a lot of things, an expandable drying rack is great for small spaces.

3. Washer Dryer Countertop

I’ve seen built-in laundry sets before, but never a topper for a pair! If you have a front loading washer and dryer, this would be a great piece to create a smooth canvas for folding clothes.

4. Wire Basket

I love the wire basket we have in our laundry area; it’s great to dump laundry like dirty sheets and towels before they make it into the wash and the open air helps them breathe. Plus I love wire in a laundry room to balance out all the softness.

5. Dryer Sheets Container

Decanting laundry essentials lends a prettier look. This acrylic holder would be great for any dryer sheets you may use.

6. Wooden Boxes

I use wooden boxes all over my house for storing things. We have wooden boxes of various sizes to store laundry supplies like dryer balls, extra laundry detergent, stain removers, brushes, etc. This little white box is filled with Dropps pods I stole from my Martha Stewart craft organizer.

7. Sliding Storage Organizer Rack

This slender sliding storage rack can fit perfectly between a washer and dryer, or any narrow space on either side. Bonus that it can catch any socks that fall in the crack!

8. Double Hamper

If you are more of a high maintenance laundry person who sorts lights and darks, double hampers make a lot of sense for sorting laundry before it makes it into the wash. This would also be great in a jack and jill bath for two siblings so their laundry doesn’t mix. The more you mix, the more you have to sort! (We know how I feel about folding laundry….)

9. Laundry Cart

If I had a larger laundry space, a laundry cart would be ideal! Hang wet clothes and collect dirty laundry all in one spot. Plus, it’s extremely mobile and very chic.

10. Wall Mounted Clothes Rack Shelf

Can store detergent and supplies on the shelf and hang clothes from the rack – a multipurpose laundry organizer! I love the matte black look of this one too.

Laundry Products I Love

  • Grow Fragrance Fabric Spray – these sprays are great for misting sheets or pillows as they come out of the dryer. Or spritzing right into the dryer to add just a touch of plant-based scent to your unscented load.
  • Dropps Laundry Pods – If you love “laundry smell” but want something safer, this brand is awesome! They are a B Corp and use bio-based formulas and cardboard packaging. Use code kath25 for 25% off for new customers and kath15 for 15% off for existing customers.
  • Grab Green Dryer Sheets – I use wool balls for large loads and these sheets for my own clothes that tend to get staticky. They are the MOST DELICIOUS smelling laundry product I’ve ever smelled! I store used sheets in my closet drawers.

How To Organize Laundry Rooms

While not all of these tips apply to the KERF laundry room, I’m sharing some general organizing tips on how you might set up your laundry room to be more efficient and tidy.

1. Opt for Cabinets

  • Why: Cabinets provide a clean, organized look while keeping supplies out of sight. They can help reduce clutter and create a streamlined appearance.

  • How to Use: Install upper and lower cabinets to store detergents, fabric softeners, and other laundry room essentials. Consider custom cabinetry to fit your space, with pull-out shelves for easy access to items at the back.
2. Use Space-Saving Items/Appliances

  • Why: Space-saving solutions are ideal for small laundry rooms, maximizing the available storage space without compromising functionality. Fun fact: when I moved into this house and had the dryer delivered, the guy told me a dryer would not fit! Luckily, we made it work.

  • How to Use: Opt for stackable washer and dryer units to free up floor space. Wall-mounted drying racks or foldable ironing boards can also be easily tucked away when not in use. Compact hampers or bins that fit under counters can keep laundry sorted without taking up extra room.
3. Create a Folding Station

  • Why: A dedicated area for folding laundry helps streamline the process and keeps clean clothes organized.

  • How to Use: If space allows, install a countertop over front-loading machines to serve as a folding station. If not, a wall-mounted drop-down table can provide a temporary workspace when needed. Keep baskets or bins nearby to sort folded laundry.
4. Maximize Vertical Spaces

  • Why: Vertical storage can make a small room feel larger by utilizing the full height of the walls.

  • How to Use: Install shelving units above the washer and dryer to store baskets, cleaning supplies, or decorative items. Hang a pegboard on the wall for organizing small tools and accessories. You can also use tall, slim storage carts that slide between appliances for additional organization without wasting any space.
5. Improve Lighting

  • Why: Good lighting is crucial in a laundry room, making it easier to spot stains and sort laundry.

  • How to Use: Install bright, energy-efficient overhead lighting to illuminate the entire space. Under-cabinet lighting can brighten up work areas, and a small task lamp can be useful near the folding station.

Water Sensor

I need to give a shout out to this water sensor that is part of our Simplisafe security system. If our washer were to leak, it would alert my phone and our system. Peace of mind!
